POPULATION ECOLOGY Computer Model for Simulating Almond Moth (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Population Dynamics

چکیده
We developed a computer model for simulating the population dynamics of the almond moth, Cadra cautella (Walker). The model incorporates previously published life history data for the almondmothdeveloping on storedpeanuts, Arachis hypogaeaL., including stage-speciÞc immature developmental time and survival and adult longevity and fecundity. The model was modiÞed so that it also could be used to simulate almond moth population dynamics on stored, dried citrus pulp and stored corn (Zea mays L.). We tested the validity of the model by using 4 previously published data sets. The model was useful for interpreting population dynamics observed in the previously published studies and will be useful for optimizing management strategies for the almond moth.

POPULATION ECOLOGY Computer Model for Simulating Population Dynamics of the Predator Lyctocoris campestris (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) in Stored Shelled Corn
A computer model for simulating population dynamics of Lyctocoris campestris (F.), a predator of stored-product insects, was developed using data from the literature and newly collected data for adult longevity and fecundity. Immature development time and survival, adult longevity, fecundity, and cannibalism were simulated. The model was validated at ambient environmental conditions during thre...
متن کاملPHYSIOLOGICAL ECOLOGY Development and Survivorship of Immature Angoumois Grain Moth (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) on Stored Corn
Life history of immature Angoumois grain moths, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier), was studied on dent corn (Pioneer 3320) at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 C and at 43, 53Ð61, 75Ð76, and 82Ð87% RH under laboratory conditions. At 10 and 40 C, none of the stages survived at any relative humidity. Temperaturewas themain factor affecting egg incubationperiod, larval-pupal development time, and egg an...

Striped rice stem borer, Chilo suppressalis Walker (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is one of the key pests in north of Iran, which damages the rice fields and decreases yield, severely. With attention to the importance of population dynamics of pests in integrated pest management, the population dynamics of immature life stages (egg, larva, pupa) of C. suppressalis were analyzed on three dominant ri...
متن کاملInfestation of Stored Saw Palmetto Berries by Cadra Cautella (lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and the Host Paradox in Stored-product Insects
The almond moth, Cadra cautella (Walker), is a common storage pest known to infest a wide range of dried plant materials, and it has been recorded from a warehouse in Florida during storage of dried passion-flower ( Passiflora incarnata L.) and dried saw palmetto berries Serenoa repens (Bartram) Small. Its status as a pest of stored saw palmetto was confirmed by trapping in a second warehouse u...
متن کاملECOLOGY AND POPULATION BIOLOGY Reproduction, Longevity, and Survival of Cactoblastis cactorum (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
Screened potted cactus,Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill., plants containing pairs of adult male and female cactus moths, Cactoblastis cactorum (Berg) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), were placed in a cactus Þeld in St. Marks, FL, to measure oviposition patterns under ambient conditions. Results showed a narrow window for oviposition during third and sixth day of adult femaleÕs life. Peak oviposition act...
